To support our mission, we seek a Regional Philanthropy Officer and #SaveLACougars Campaign Manager to join our team working remotely in the Los Angeles area. The California Regional Philanthropy Officer & Campaign Manager will support and drive a range of fundraising activities in support of the National Wildlife Federation's mission to unite all Americans to ensure wildlife thrive in a rapidly changing world. The role is focused in California and the incumbent will collaborate closely with both the California Regional Executive Director and the Director of Philanthropy - West Coast to primarily support #SaveLACougars campaign fundraising (www.savelacougars.org) and contribute to individual major donor growth for the benefit of the entire organization.

As an integral member of an expanding California team in Los Angeles, the Regional Philanthropy Officer & Campaign Manager will participate in fundraising strategy development and implementation; identify and qualify prospective funders; build relationships and forge collaborations; and secure major gifts, grants, sponsorships and other philanthropic revenue.

This is an exciting time of growth and expansion at NWF, and this role is ideal for an entrepreneurial self-starter seeking opportunities to contribute meaningfully toward the success of the #SaveLACougars campaign and substantial increases in philanthropic support for the Federation in the years ahead.

In this role you will:

  •  Provide overall #SaveLACougars campaign management and organization including pipeline development, prospect tracking, engagement strategy, task assignment and timeline management.
  • Contribute to strategies that will inform the success of the campaign fundraising plan, which includes communicating programmatic needs, preparing a schedule of fundraising activity and developing support materials for appropriate staff and volunteers.  
  • Donor engagement management; including scheduling major donor/prospect meetings, preparing briefings/support materials, follow up correspondence, and CRM tracking. 
  • Identification and cultivation of new donors, and stewardship activities for existing donors, which may include planning and execution of small-scale donor gatherings
  • Drive and/or inform the generation of institutional funding proposals, identify and actively solicit feedback from potential stakeholders in relevant departments.
  • Support CA program staff in all aspects of grant management, including prospecting, relationship-building, proposal writing, deliverables tracking and reporting
  • Work across the Los Angeles area to broaden the overall visibility of the organization and engagement of prospective supporters, volunteers and donors. Engage leadership and program staff, and others where appropriate. 
  • In collaboration with the Director of Philanthropy - West Coast, develop fundraising coaching and resources for CA program staff and lead volunteers.
  • Provide guidance to CA staff and lead volunteers on fundraising procedures and protocols.
  • Engage in California programmatic activity, including attending CA program meetings and participate in field activities when appropriate,
  • Support program staff with their fundraising efforts and communicates strategies and outcomes to philanthropy staff.
  • Seek opportunities for collaborative philanthropic engagement with NWF affiliate organizations, resulting in mutually beneficial outcomes.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.  

Qualifications: 

  • College degree required; advanced degree desireable.
  • Established and progressive experience in fundraising and capital campaigns. Professional experience in membership, individual philanthropy, or corporate and foundation giving, preferred.
  • Passion for the preservation and protection of wildlife and wild places is highly desirable.
  • Experience in environmental conservation sector a plus.
  • Entrepreneurial and self-starting, with the demonstrated ability to both work independently and as an integral member of a diverse team. Solid team building skills will serve this position well.
  • Professionalism, with superior interpersonal abilities, communications and political savvy, and excellent time management and organization skills.
  • Demonstrated ability in building sustained donor or client relationships, developing and implementing funding strategies, partnering with senior staff and volunteer leaders, and writing winning proposals and collaterals.
  • Ability to travel domestically, about 20% on average.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with donor databases or constituent management systems and management reporting tools.
