Founded in 1936, the National Wildlife Federation has grown into America's largest and most trusted grassroots conservation organization with 51 state/territorial affiliates and more than six million members and supporters, including hunters, anglers, gardeners, birders, hikers, campers, paddlers, etc. The mission of the National Wildlife Federation is to unite all Americans to ensure wildlife thrive in our rapidly changing world. The organization's programs focus on conserving wildlife, restoring habitat and waterways, expanding outdoor opportunities, connecting children with nature, and addressing the causes and consequences of climate change. To support our mission, we seek a Director of Conservation Partnerships to join our team. 

The Director of Conservation Partnerships for the Mid-Atlantic will lead the Regional office's work to build and sustain the capacity and effectiveness of the National Wildlife Federation state affiliate organizations, both individually and collectively, and in doing so create a more powerful and cohesive national Federation. The Director will also develop and implement programs in the Mid-Atlantic with affiliates and other partner conservation organizations to protect wildlife and restore wildlife habitat in a rapidly changing world.  

In implementing the National Wildlife Federation's new strategic plan ("A Common Agenda for Wildlife"), the Director will work to drive our three strategic pillars through programs that engage regional affiliates and create outcomes for NWF, while building a large movement of people committed to a vision of helping fish and wildlife populations. To build and sustain a powerful conservation movement, the Director will ensure the long-term effectiveness of National Wildlife Federation affiliates.

In this role you will be responsible for:

  • Cultivating and maintaining partnerships with NWF affiliate organizations and Regional Board members;
  • Developing diverse, engaged constituencies and leadership for both organizations;
  • Sustaining programmatic partnerships with affiliate organizations on key Regional priorities, specifically regional climate and renewable energy work;
  • Working with the Regional Executive Director to develop new programs to meet regional conservation outcomes;
  • Working with national Affiliate Partnerships team to continue to develop a cohesive, aligned and higher-capacity Federation that creates a force-multiplier effect at the state, regional and national levels;
  • Providing guidance to refine and re-invent norms at NWF for cross-organizational collaboration to support programmatic, marketing, communications and fundraising partnerships with affiliate organizations;
  • Working with fellow Affiliate and Regional Strategies staff to develop tools and programs that aim to increase the capacity, effectiveness and impact of affiliate organizations; and
  • Collaborating with the Regional Executive Director to identify and implement innovative and sustainable ways to raise funds to support shared NWF and affiliate goals. The position includes budget management, fundraising (institutional, corporate and major donor) and extensive travel within the Mid-Atlantic region.


  • Bachelor's degree in administration, environmental studies, science, public policy or other related field; post graduate degrees or work preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years relevant work experience in conservation policy specifically climate/renewable energy, program planning and implementation, establishing and cultivating partnerships, and fundraising/grant writing.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate and create trust-based relationships with relevant stakeholders across a complex system.
  • Experience in working with nonprofit organizations and in building organizational capacity
  • Proven ability to conceive and execute programs with clear objectives, benchmarks, and deliverables.
  • Ability to work under pressure, to meet tight deadlines within the budgetary constraints, and to handle multiple projects simultaneously and autonomously.
  • Strong written, verbal and interpersonal skills.

Extensive travel will be required in this role, and we anticipate 5-8 days every month, 30-60 nights per year.
